Three Yonkers High Schools Recognized as High Performing/Gap Closing Schools
(May 4, 2007) The New York State Education Department Commissioner Richard Mills, congratulated three Yonkers Public High Schools for being recognized as one of New York State’s 271 Title I middle and high schools that have met the criteria for designation as “high performing/gap closing.”
Lincoln High School, Saunders Trades and Technical High School and Yonkers International Baccalaureate High School have been so designated because they met all applicable State standards for English language arts and math during 2005-2006 school year and also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts, mathematics, science and/or graduation rate during the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 school years.
Commissioner Mills wrote in his letter to the principals, “You and your entire school community are to be commended for leading New York forward to accomplish our dual goals of increasing student achievement while closing the gap in student performance.”
Only schools that had a minimum of 30 continuously enrolled students in at least two of the following accountability groups were eligible for recognition: a racial ethnic group, low-income, limited English proficient, or student with disabilities.
The schools’ achievement will be recognized by the Board of Regents at a Learning from Leaders forum on May 14th.
