The Gorton High School Unity Club was singled out by USA Weekend Magazine for their outstanding public service.

The Unity Club of Gorton High School will receive the Westchester County Human Rights Commission’s “Human Rights Meritorious Service Award” at the organization’s Annual Human Rights Day Breakfast on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. at the Crown Plaza Hotel in White Plains. The students and teachers will receive recognition for their local and international humanitarian service. Members of the club have not been afraid to learn, speak and act against atrocities and other human rights issues.
The Unity Club is the student-led part of Gorton High School’s Meeting Hate with Humanity program which helps students understand, accept and respect diversity and human rights. The Unity Club was honored recently by USA Weekend Magazine as part of their Make a Difference campaign. The club raised $1,100 to help fellow AOIT - Academy of Information Technology schools in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi that were affected by Hurricane Katrina.
