500 Middle School Students Attend College Fair
With a clear and focused
vision of the future, more than 500 Yonkers Public Schools middle school students attended a regional college fair where they "were the best prepared, asked the best questions, and presented themselves as future college students."
That's what Mrs. Nona Donovan, district coordinator and a chaperone of the trip, heard over and over from the representatives of the 75 colleges and universities who set up shop at the Westchester County Center. As it should be.
The students were primed by their guidance counselors and teachers with a small arsenal of information that helped them to formulate the questions to ask the representatives. The youngsters tabulated the answers, cross referencing and comparing results about program of studies, size, student life and more, by private college, SUNY and CUNY. It's a valuable starting point. The lists will evolve and change over the next several years as the students work to achieve the goal of graduation and college.
Both Mrs. Donovan and Mrs. Silvia Zaluski who is the Coordinator of Pupil Support Services, were “so very proud of our students and so impressed by their appearance, demeanor and determination.” We all are.
