Mark Twain Middle School Families Transform Trash to Treasure
Mark Twain Middle School celebrates how “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” during a family art event on Wednesday, May 23, at 6:00 pm.
Art teacher Karen Lotito guides students, parents, staff and community members through a creative exploration of Assemblage Art. Made famous by artists like Louise Nevelson, the Assemblage Art process uses “found” materials to create three dimensional collages or sculptures. Mark Twain Middle School families will simulate this process by gathering their own discarded materials like egg cartons, light bulbs, and paper towel rolls and then transforming the collection, using glue and spray paint, into works of art. While introducing participants to the Assemblage Art technique, the event also provides families with a unique opportunity to create something special together.
The intergenerational artwork will be showcased the following evening, Thursday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m., at the school’s “Spring Awakenings Celebration of Music and Art.”
