President's Volunteer Service Award to Two Students

Sierra Bangari, 9th Grade student at Riverside High School and Kimberly Spence, a 6th grade student at Westchester Hills School 29, have been honored for exemplary volunteer service with the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.

Sierra’s volunteer activities include Junior Docent at the Hudson River Museum, member of the Green Policy Task Force, and work at the food pantry at her church.

Kimberly’s volunteer activities include preparing meals at her church and assisting the sexton in general church maintenance for the past two and one-half years.

In 2003, President George Bush created the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to find ways to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our Nation. The Council brings together leaders from the worlds of business, entertainment, sports, education, government, nonprofits, and the media.

The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President's Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.
