Love is a Chemical Reaction at School °5
School 5 fifth graders will be following their noses as they learn the art and science of perfume making Monday, February 11th.
The young scientists will learn how the chemical reaction between common household alcohol and garden flowers and spices such as cinnamon bark, vanilla beans, cloves, lemon zest and orange peel produces a scent that can be bottled into a loving gift for a special someone (Mom, grandma, sister, aunt?).
The students will also design labels and gift cards, making this a truly multidisciplinary experience.
Science teacher Jeffrey Leben and fifth grade teachers Lynn Graham and José Gonzalez are coordinating this fragrant project.
School 5 offers its Pre-K through Grade 8 students a rigorous Core Knowledge curriculum, with the entire school community embracing a common goal to "seek the highest." Ms. Geraldine Pisacreta is the principal.
