Building on a Tradition, Students Mark School Board Appreciation Week

October 22nd through October 26th is School Board recognition week throughout New York State. In his proclamation marking the observance, Governor Eliot Spitzer noted, “The members of New York’s local school boards are community leaders who provide an invaluable resource as local decision makers, responding not only to the respective educational needs of their communities, but also serving in the interests of schoolchildren and their future.”

From palm-print posters thanking them for their helping hands to a creative anagram that spelled out a tribute, schoolchildren from throughout our District honored the nine volunteer Trustees of the Yonkers Board of Education for their service to them, to their families and to our community.

• Pulaski youngsters crafted collages and portraits, and wrote letters to the Trustees.

• Museum School 25 students created an anagram poster that spelled out and defined “Education” – Excelling, Dedicated, Upstanding, Creative, Academic, Trusting, Innovative, Outstanding, Nurturing.

• Yonkers High School students presented some outstanding creative writing.

• Life Skills students at Mark Twain Middle School wrote sweet letters of thanks.

• Little hands graced a palm print poster created by students at School 5.

• School 22 students made cards with their pictures and their prose.

• And, as always, the Gorton High School Horticulture students created lovely flower arrangements.
