If you ask this erudite Kahlil Gibran fifth grader to spell success, don't be surprised to hear the letters "s-o-l-i-t-a-i-r-e", which she gave in the correct order to win the 44th annual Citywide Fifth Grade Spelling Bee last night. Right on her heels were second place winner Noor Abdullah from the Andalusia School and in third, Roksolana Sikyrynska from PEARLS.
Sponsored by the Exchange Club of Yonkers, the Fifth Grade Spelling Bee has been a Yonkers tradition for more than four decades, involving thousands of children in classroom and schoolwide elimination contests as they move up to the Citywide Finals. This year, forty-five schools sent students to the competition.
