Two Lincoln High School Seniors Honored for Going Above & Beyond

Neville Green and Maurine Koranteng are both recipients of the Westchester County Youth Board’s Youth Recognition Award. They are among ten high school seniors in Westchester who have gone beyond the usual to help their communities.

The goal of the Westchester County Youth Recognition Awards is to acknowledge high school seniors of the Class of 2008 who have been involved in building a thriving, healthy and caring community through individual efforts and actions. Both of these amazing young people more than exceed that goal.

Neville is a member and current president of Corporate Riders, Habitat for Humanity Club, the varsity Bowling team, the Taj Club, and the school band, where he plays the trumpet.

Some of his volunteer activities include working in a soup kitchen at the Riverdale Avenue Adventist Church, participating in a disaster relief fund-raiser for Tsunami victims, coordinating community service hours for delinquent youth through the Yonkers’ Youth-Court program of the Police Athletic League, serving as Associate Director of the New York branch of the Youth Preacher’s Core, and Chaplain of the Rockland/Westchester Adventist Youth Federation.

Maurine is a dedicated volunteer within the Westchester County Youth Council, which is an advocacy and youth empowerment program for high school age youth that provides a unique opportunity to establish and support youth leadership by reinforcing skills such as positive communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and advocacy around issues that affect their peer group. Maurine has participated in Youth Council related events ranging from car washes and walks for Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence to lobbying in Albany for gun control. Maurine has even gone to the United Nations to bring awareness and help solve the global problem of domestic violence against women.

Maurine has also participated in the National Youth Non-Profit Organization to speak about youth engagement, is the head of the Corporate Raiders club, the leading Prosecution attorney in the Yonkers Youth Court, Academic Bowl and Vice-President of the National Honor Society.
