(May 19, 2009) Roosevelt High School students Sashay Turner, Yarelis Burero and DaQuan Gary, the 2009 SkillsUSA New York State Champions in the Community Service competition will be on their way to Kansas City, Missouri in June to compete in the national competition.
The students were honored for their leadership and community service working with My Sister’s Place in Yonkers and the advocacy and awareness programs they developed regarding dating and domestic violence.
They are true celebrities, featured this week on the Legislative Report, the New York State Senate cable television show with Senator Cousins and on New12 with Matt Sampson. Principal Jade Sharp and coaches Frank Leonetti and Noreen Riottli joined the students in Albany.
