Application/Enrollment Form for the Academically Talented Programs (Grades Prekindergarten - 8) must be completed at the Information Center. Applications are electronically processed only at the Information Center. Telephone or written requests for applications will NOT be honored.
Please note that the application must be completed by the deadline date, December 18, 2009, in person only at:

APPLICANTS NEW TO THE YONKERS PUBLIC SCHOOLS must enroll in the district. Please telephone (914) 376-8050 for additional information.
Required Documents
All applicants NEW to the Yonkers Public Schools must show birth certificate, 3 proofs of Yonkers residency and immunization when submitting an application form.
The above documents do not have to accompany the applications of students already attending the Yonkers Public Schools.
Transportation
Students eligible for transportation will be notified before September 2010.
Parents, if your child is accepted into the gifted programs, this will be the child’s school assignment for September 2010.

The Yonkers Public Schools is accepting applications for the PEARLS Hawthorne Elementary School Grades Prekindergarten - 5 and the Academically Talented Middle School program at Yonkers Middle School for grades 6-8.
ELIGIBILITY (Prekindergarten - 5)
To be considered for admission into the PEARLS Hawthorne Elementary School Program, all applicants should, at the time of application, be residents of the City of Yonkers.
To be considered for admission:
- Prekindergarten students must be 4 years-of-age on or before December 1, 2010
- Kindergarten students must be 5 years-of-age on or before December 1, 2010
Eligible students will be evaluated by professional staff members. Evaluation is available for limited English speaking students.
ELIGIBILITY (Grades 6 - 8)
To be considered for admission into the Academically Talented Middle School Program, all applicants should, at the time of application, be in grades 5 - 7 and be residents of the City of Yonkers.
Enrollment in this program continues from one grade level to the next, provided the student continues to perform at appropriate proficiency levels.
SELECTION PROCESS
- For students entering PreKindergarten, Kindergarten and grade 1
Students will be individually evaluated using a nationally normed standardized aptitude test.
- For students entering grades 2 through 8
Students will be evaluated using multiple measures - a nationally normed standardized test of learning ability, the TerraNova or the New York State Testing Program, report card grades and teacher recommendations.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The PEARLS Hawthorne Elementary School Academically Talented Program for grades Prekindergarten - 8, is designed to meet the special needs of talented students by providing:
- Enriched core curriculum
- Emphasis on creative thinking and academic abilities
- Focus on varying talents, interests and aptitudes
- Interdisciplinary study through a thematic approach to learning
For September 2010, newly accepted students in grades six through eight will only be placed in the Academically Talented program at Yonkers Middle Schools.
The Middle School Academically Talented Program for grades 6 - 8, is designed to meet the special needs of students by providing:
- Standards based, rigorous academic program for all students
- Strong interdisciplinary thematic team approach in the core academic program
- Inquiry based, use of artifacts, objects, original documents and first hand experiences
- Use of artifacts, primary sources and oral history
- Emphasis on creative thinking and problem solving skills
