The NYS Council of School Superintendents announced on January 4, 2011 that Yonkers Public School's superintendent Bernard P. Pierorazio is the New York State School Superintendent of the Year.
Dr. William Johnson, the Council's Distinguished Service Chair and Superintendent of Rockville Centre Schools, said, “Bernard Pierorazio was chosen New York State School Superintendent of the Year by his colleagues because he provides a model of leadership in this time of reform that exemplifies what we as an association believe is the mission of our profession."
Superintendent Pierorazio is himself a graduate of the Yonkers Public Schools. He continued his studies at Central Connecticut State University, the College of New Rochelle, and Iona College, earning degrees in History, Special Education, and Administration and Supervision. With strong community loyalty and dedication to education, he returned to his native Yonkers, working as a teacher, dean and administrator. He has served as Superintendent since 2005.
