High School Heroes Program Kicks Off Riverside’s High School Heroes recently stepped into Museum 25 classrooms to provide elementary-age students with the skills, knowledge and motivation needed to be successful in school, the workplace and life. Using curriculum provided by Junior Achievement (JA), the young professors led age-appropriate lessons, connecting classroom studies to real-world situations that introduced pupils to the concepts of financial stability and career success. In just one day, the JA program impacted over 400 elementary school students, with 40 Riverside mentors providing over 2,100 educational hours. This event kicked off the High School Heroes program, which partners a high school with a nearby elementary school - in this case, two wonderful schools just about next door to each other. The program has been successful in engaging high school students as role models and mentors for their younger peers and helping to develop within the teens the leadership, public speaking and presentation skills needed for life beyond school. Yonkers has participated in the program for over 15 years.
