(July 2, 2012) Yonkers Board of Education (BOE) trustees will vote on a new resolution to extend Superintendent of Schools Bernard P. Pierorazio’s contract to 2017 at a future BOE Stated Meeting. The action is in response to recommendations from Yonkers Inspector General Kitley S. Covill, who recommended the Board rescind the contract amendment originally passed on June 20th and revise procedures before voting on an updated resolution.
“We thank the Inspector General for providing her insight and will use her guidance to rectify this issue,” said Yonkers Board of Education President Paresh Patel. “We feel strongly about the positive impact the Superintendent has had, and will have, on the Yonkers Public Schools, and we welcome comments from the public regarding this topic.”
To remedy procedural and substantive errors addressed by the IG, the Board will include the extension of the Superintendent’s contract for a two-year period ending 2017 in agenda items to be discussed and voted on at a future meeting.
"Superintendent Pierorazio has extensive experience and has provided much-needed consistency and dependable leadership through very difficult financial times," said Board President Patel. "His knowledge of this District and the City of Yonkers are invaluable and we want to guarantee that his tenure continues to ensure a solid foundation for our students and our schools. We would be remiss to lose him to another opportunity."
