The Yonkers Council of Parent-Teacher Associations and Parent Teacher-Student Associations is a member of the Westchester District of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, and a branch of the National PTA. The Council serves as a medium through which the individual school PTAs can join together to exchange ideas, benefit from the sharing of experiences and learn new leadership techniques. Council meetings are held once a month. Only PTA/PTSA Unit Directors and delegates are able to vote. However, all members are invited to attend.
Each of the Yonkers Public Schools is represented by a PTA. Meetings are held in each school, according to a schedule available from each unit president.
The PTA's main objectives are:
To promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, community & place of worship
To raise the standards of home life
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
To bring the home and the school into closer relation so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education
