Yonkers Council of PTA/PTSA

The Yonkers Council of Parent-Teacher Associations and Parent Teacher-Student Associations is a member of the Westchester District of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, and a branch of the National PTA.

The Council serves as a medium through which the individual school PTAs can join together to exchange ideas, benefit from the sharing of experiences and learn new leadership techniques. Council meetings are held once a month. Only PTA/PTSA Unit Directors and delegates are able to vote. However, all members are invited to attend.

Each of the Yonkers Public Schools is represented by a PTA. Meetings are held in each school, according to a schedule available from each unit president.

The PTA's main objectives are:

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, community & place of worship
  • To raise the standards of home life
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
  • To bring the home and the school into closer relation so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education
