Transportation
The Yonkers Public Schools’ Transportation Policy is based on the philosophy that the bus ride is an extension of the school day. To ensure the safety of each passenger, it is the responsibility of all students to be aware of and comply with all established bus safety procedures.
All students who are eight (8) years old or older are allowed off the bus at their assigned bus stops. All younger students must be met by parent/guardian or designee.
Transportation
Eligibility Criteria
Transportation will only be provided to regular education students who attend a school within the City of Yonkers and reside one and one-half (1½) miles or more from the school they attend. Special education students receive transportation as specified in their Individual Education Program (IEP). Students eligible for transportation will be notified before school begins in September. High School students must pay for bus transportation; eligible students must apply annually for a Yonkers Public Schools Bus Pass.
Elementary and
Middle School Students
Transportation is available to students in grades prekindergarten through eight and reside one and one-half (1½) miles or more from the school they attend. Student bus stops can be up to ½ mile from their residence.

High school students eligible for transportation can purchase monthly Yonkers Public Schools Bus Passes at their high school for public transportation (Bee-Line Bus) or school bus transportation that is designated for specific areas of the city. The maximum cost for the Yonkers Public Schools Bus Pass is $25.00 each month ($250 for the school year September to June) for students eligible for transportation. Families that meet Federal income guidelines will have a decrease in the cost of their child’s bus pass; $20.00 or $15.00 according to eligibility. Families that need financial assistance should contact the Information Center at 376-8050.
Transportation will be provided ONLY to students who attend a school that meets the District’s transportation requirements. Students eligible for transportation will be notified before school begins in September.
Students attending parochial schools, grades prekindergarten through twelve, must submit an application for transportation. This must be done every year by April 1st. Applications are available from the Transportation Department.
Student Transportation Reception Center
Transportation is a privilege, not a right. If this privilege is abused, students run the risk of losing their district-provided transportation. Parents/guardians will then be responsible for transporting their children to and from the assigned school.
All students in prekindergarten through grade 2 must be brought to and picked up from their bus stops by a designated person. When these students are not met at bus stops, they are brought to the Information Center at 28 Wells Avenue, Bldg. #2
