Mrs. Bernadette Dunne
Trustee
Bernadette Dunne is the senior member of the Board of Education, originally appointed in May 1995. She most recently served as President of the Board.
She chairs the Instructional Affairs Committee and the Long Range Strategic Planning Committee, and is a member of the Superintendent's Evaluation and Audit Budget and Finance Committees. She is the District Liaision to the Conference of Big 5 School Districts, where she also serves as Vice Chair.
Mrs. Dunne is a Professor at Manhattan College, Riverdale, New York. She is also an Administrative Associate and Field Supervisor in the Graduate Department of Education for Administrators at the college. She was formerly the principal of Sacred Heart High School and Christ the King School, both in Yonkers, and was an educator and teacher trainer for the New York City Board of Education for eighteen years in Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Mrs. Dunne received distinguished Administrator and Leadership Awards in Education and Community from Marymount College, the Yonkers City Council, and the Archdiocese of New York. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of Yonkers Community Planning Council and the Policy Board for the Teachers Resource Center in Yonkers. Mrs. Dunne has served as chair and school evaluator for the Middle States Association in Maryland, Long Island, and New Jersey, and served on the Middle States Association task force for development of school goals for the twenty-first century.
She is a member of the Non-Public School Administrators Conference, and the Council of Colleges and Administrators. She is a former member of the Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers, has been inducted into the Sacred Heart High School Hall of Fame, was president of the Elementary Catholic Forensic League, was district chairperson for the Yonkers and Mt. Vernon parochial schools for eight years, and was an aide to the Grand Marshall for the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Mrs. Dunne received her degrees from Marymount College and Hunter College and has done advanced study at Fordham University and Manhattan College.
Mrs. Dunne and her husband, David, have two grown children.
