Teaching and Learning
Core Curriculum

The Yonkers Public Schools provide a strong academic and instructional program for all students. A districtwide, unified core curriculum based on the New York State Learning Standards is followed throughout grades prekindergarten -12. All programs have been developed to help meet the individual learning needs and interests of students. Support is provided to assist teachers to utilize best practices in implementing curriculum goals and preparing students for state and local assessments.

Instructional Support

The District provides technical support to principals and teachers, so that they, in turn, can better support and nurture students’ success and achievement.

The District provides support in four important areas:

1. Supervision of Teachers - instructional assistance to teachers
2. Curriculum Development - standards-based curriculum development and implementation
3. Professional Development - workshops and courses on instructional, curricular and professional issues and topics
4. Consultant Services - resource for administrators and teachers
