Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and SmartBoards are among the technologies that are revolutionizing classrooms. Three middle schools – Emerson, Museum and Yonkers – are infusing classroom instruction with SmartBoards, online research, webquests, digital media, weblogs and podcasts. Six technology teachers in each school are using these tools in their classrooms, and as turnkey instructors, teaching their colleagues how to use them as well.

Technology Programs
The Yonkers Public Schools provides our students and staff with an infrastructure designed to meet the ever growing technological needs of its users.
Integrating the use of computers in all aspects of instruction supports a creative environment for learning. The use of technology prepares each student for the challenges of post-secondary education and the workplace of today and tomorrow.
Over 10,000 microcomputers are available for instructional purposes. Students have the unique opportunity of participating in a wide variety of computer-based activities. Through the Yonkers Public Schools Technology Initiative, a minimum of five computers and a printer are in virtually every classroom. The entire District is connected via a Wide Area Network.
Our secondary schools have comprehensive technology programs. A Computer Sciences Academy is offered at Gorton High School, and Emerson Middle School has an Information/Design Technology Academy. At Lincoln High School, in the Business and Finance Academy, computers are integrated in all aspects of instruction. Computers are extensively used at Saunders Trades and Technical High School and at Roosevelt High School.
Through our Yonkers Public Schools Connected Classrooms and Communities initiative each school has a website that is accessible through the District's Web Portal. School websites are available from any computer with an Internet connection.
These web-based communication and resource networks connect students, teachers, parents, and administrators within schools and the District. It enhances education by facilitating online interaction among members of the school community.
The school websites publicize announcements, events and information on the Internet. In addition, we have the capacity to provide every member of the school community with a personal user account with email, address book, file storage, bookmark storage, and access to the member directory.
