The city of Yonkers, New York is located just north of New York City in the southwest corner of Westchester County, overlooking the majestic beauty of the Hudson River and the Palisades.
A stone's throw from midtown Manhattan, Yonkers is also convenient to Connecticut and New Jersey through a network of highways crisscrossing the city. Bus routes and a rail system link Yonkers to New York City and the up-county suburbs. International travel is available from one of three major airports located within 40 minutes of Yonkers.
Some of the finest cultural attractions in the world- Broadway, Lincoln Center and Museum Mile - are on Yonkers doorstep, along with incomparable restaurants and shopping. Well known professional sports arenas such as Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, Madison Square Garden and the New Jersey Meadowlands lie within a 10-mile radius of our City.
Yonkers, with a population of almost 200,000, is the fourth largest city in New York State and the largest in Westchester County. Known for having one of the lowest property taxes in the region, Yonkers offers a dynamic mix of residential neighborhoods and business districts, each with unique attributes. Yonkers is home to the nationally renowned Hudson River Museum/Andrus Planetarium and Philipse Manor Hall, a historical landmark that was built in 1682 and now serves a museum of history, art and architecture.
The City of Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation maintains 70 parks and playgrounds on 373 acres that offer tennis courts, ball fields, a skating center a rifle range, two indoor pools and 50 outdoor basketball courts. Recreational facilities run by the county include the Sprain Ridge Park with a pool, picnic area, hiking trails, ball fields, tennis courts and fresh water fishing; and the 40 acre Lenoir Preserve, the county s most urban nature center. Two of Westchester County's public golf courses, Dunwoodie and Sprain Lake, are located in Yonkers.
