Smaller Learning Communities
Sixth Grade Program
- A personalized learning environment to assist students with the transition to middle school and life long learning
- Teams of 60 students each led by two core area teachers and a Literacy Specialist
- Interdisciplinary instruction integrates theme experiences within the sixth grade curriculum
- Students are supported by grade level teams located in separate wings of the building
Information/Design Technology Academy
- Technology infused through inquiry, applications and multimedia programming
- Word-processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics and Internet use
- Multimedia resources introduced on a variety of platforms
- Two Math-Science-Technology labs to support instruction in audio and visual communication, graphic design, aerodynamic car and plane design, plastic and laser technology, and bridge and motor building
Global Sciences Academy - Earth, Sea, Space
- Earth Science - geology and archaeology, Marine Science - marine biology, and Space Science - astronomy and aerodynamics
- Global information systems and the ‘Global Lab’ project are used in research projects
- Interaction with researchers and field experts
- WeatherNet Weather Station and Homeland Security websites connect students to global issues
