Sixth Grade Program
- A personalized learning environment to assist students with the transition to middle school learning and life
- Teams of 60 students each led by two core area teachers and a Literacy Specialist
- Interdisciplinary instruction integrates theme experiences within the sixth grade curriculum
- Students are supported by grade level teams located in separate wings of the building, which minimizes student movement throughout the building, yet maximizes collegiality among teachers and students
Global Science Academy with Technology Integration –
Earth, Sea, Space
- Earth Science encompasses geology, archaeology, Marine Science and Space Science
- Global Science Technology Lab infuses Mathematics, Science and Technology through computerized software programs
- Interaction with researchers and field experts in the area of Global Science
- WeatherNet Weather Station and Homeland Security websites connect students to global issues
- Classroom, Inc., provides students with virtual workplaces, where they assume a managerial position and use literacy and math skills to make decisions, solve problems and relate learning to real-world situations Medical Academy
- Enriched science and health curricula in the human body, nutrition, immunology, pharmacology and wellness
- Hand-on learning experiences in medical applications, simulations, demonstrations and research
- Students receive American Red Cross certifications and job shadow at institutions such as St. John’s Hospital, Cochran School of Nursing and Yonkers Animal Hospital
- Service Learning Programs provide students the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences at nursing homes and day care centers in the Yonkers community
- Strong collaboration with the Medical Professions Academy at Gorton High School
