The middle school program will be phased out by June 2009. Museum Middle School students will have priority placement in Riverside High School.

The Theme/Philosophy
Smaller Learning Communities

Seventh and Eighth Grade Program
All current sixth and seventh grade Museum Studies and Academically Talented students will remain in the school as the program is phased out by June 2009.

  • Humanities approach to instruction in English and social studies classes and an experiential instructional approach is used in science and mathematics classes
  • Students train as Junior Docents, peer group guides, and museum curators as they prepare exhibitions at the Hudson River Museum
  • In-school gallery space allows students to construct school-based museum exhibitions
  • Artifact and museum resources enhance the thematic approach to the curriculum and research projects
  • 21st Century technology studios highlight engineering, graphics and video marketing programs
  • Competitive and cooperative opportunities such as Science Olympiad, Chess Club and tournaments, Scrabble Club, Drama Club, Movie Club, Student Government, and Modified High School Sports

Academically Talented

  • Students must meet entrance requirements
  • Research-based gifted teaching and learning strategies are used to meet the educational and social needs of gifted students
  • Differentiated instruction and curriculum compacting address individual student’s academic strengths, encouraging a student to explore subjects in much greater depth
  • Acceleration for capable students through Regents and high school level courses
  • Entrance Requirements: Multiple measures used: a nationally-normed standardized test of learning ability, New York State Assessments in English language arts and mathematics, report card grades, and teacher recommendations.
