Work with Yonkers Public Schools teachers and students to gain field experience in your future area of certification (All grades K-12 and all subject areas)

* If funding is available for the Summer in the City Program, eligible students will receive up to $2000 (subject to taxes) as a stipend for the Summer Session during July and August 2010.

Sessions:

The following are estimated dates, actual dates will be determined by the program.

  • July 1– July 29, 2010
    Early Childhood Program
  • July 6 - July 30, 2010
    6th Grade Summer STEM Learning Lab
  • July 6 - August 19, 2010
    Secondary Summer School for students
    Separated into Two Sessions
  • TBD Extended Year Special Education

You will be required to attend interviews, training sessions, and academic preparation during the month of June.

*Requirements:

  • Full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing, attending a NYS approved teacher preparation program for the Fall 2009/Spring 2010 semesters
  • Must have completed 60 college credits and be a full-time student Spring/Fall 2010
  • Does not presently hold certification in New York State
  • Official transcripts required for Spring 2010 (Jan.-June) and proof of registration for Fall 2010 (Sept.-Dec.)
  • A letter of recommendation from your professor on college letterhead

*A service agreement is required by NYSED. Tutors who fail to meet all New York State Education Department requirements and/or fail to complete the service obligation will be subject to repay the amount of the award received.

PLEASE INDICATE THAT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A SUMMER IN THE CITY TUTORIAL POSITION AND  INCLUDE PREVIOUS YONKERS PUBLIC SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL EXPERIENCE AND LOCATION. 

Selections will be made based on district/State eligibility criteria; you will be notified in writing if eligible. Placements will be based on your college major and the needs of the district
