Remember that chapter 18 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" must be read by tomorrow (5/6).  It is up to you to budget your time to get this chapter read.  I announced the reading last Thursday, so by tomorrow, you'll have had plenty of time.

     5/4:

Today, we're going to go back in time -- to chapter 15 (the lynch-mob scene), which we have finally all read and analyzed.  We're going to do a text-to-film comparison -- just like we used to do in school.  The film-clip you'll be watching is 3-and-a-half minutes long, and the work that accompanies it is due Thursday (5/7) at 3:30 p.m.  The easiest way to see the scene and to access/submit the work that goes with it is via Teams.  If you're not on Teams, however, please see the "5/4" blog post and e-mail me your answer (rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org).

Remember that chapter 18 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" must be read by Wednesday (5/6).  It is up to you to budget your time to get this chapter read.  I announced the reading last Thursday, so by this Wednesday, you'll have had plenty of time.

    5/1:

Your second chapter 17 quiz is due tomorrow (5/1) at 3:30 p.m.  The easiest way to access/submit it is on Teams.  But it has been posted as a "4/27" blog post here on my teacher page if you're not on Teams.  You'll need to e-mail me your answers at rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org (please don't post answers on the blog itself).

Chapter 18 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is due Wednesday (5/6).  Budget your time (I would definitely begin reading today!).  Before you read the chapter google the word "chiffarobe," so that you know what one is.  The word "chiffarobe" will play a big role in this chapter and the next.

    Makeup work:

The best way to access/submit this makeup work is on Teams.  If you're not on Teams, look at my blog post entitled "4/15," and send me the answer via e-mail by Monday (5/4), 3:30 p.m.  You'll need to have read chapter 16 to do this work properly.  As for who is exempt:  You'll need to correct me if I'm wrong.  4/15 (April 15th) is right around the time that I started asking those who could do so to respond on Teams.  So, I have responses in multiple places starting at this time, and I might be overlooking yours.  I see responses from Lizeth, Angelina, Alexa Guzman, and Matthew.  But look at the post.  If you know that you did this work, just tell me where you sent it (my e-mail?  is it a Teams "chat"?).  Thanks -- and sorry

    4/30:

    4/29:

***Important note:  Some of you seem to think that you can get away with not reading the chapters I assign and simply gathering answers from the internet.  You will find out very quickly that that is not going to work.  It is completely obvious to me when you have copied answers from an internet site, and I will give you as little credit for that assignment as if you had handed me nothing at all (plain English:  you will get a "0").  There are no shortcuts here!  If you'd like to pass 8th grade English, you will have to read the book.  Again:  I am *VERY* aware when you have copied a website and have no idea what you're talking about.

Your chapter 17 "To Kill a Mockingbird" quiz is due today at 3:30 p.m.  The easiest way to access/submit it is on Teams.  But it has been posted as a "4/27" blog post here on my teacher page if you're not on Teams.  You'll need to e-mail me your answers at rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org (please don't post answers on the blog itself).

A second quiz on chapter 17 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is due on Friday (5/1) at 3:30 p.m.  I've called it "Chapter 17  Quiz, Continued."  The easiest way to access/sumbit it is on Teams.  But if you are not on Teams, you can find it on the blog post entitled "4/29."  You'll need to e-mail me your answers at rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org (please don't post answers on the blog itself).

    Makeup work:

The best way to access/submit this makeup work is on Teams.  If you're not on Teams, look at my blog post entitled "4/13," and send me the answer via e-mail by 3:30 p.m. tomorrow (4/30).  The students who are exempt from this makeup work because they've already done it are as follows:  Matthew, Steven, Lizeth, Alex Gomez, Jose, Angelina, Zandrea, Alexa, Shivma, and Zeliah.  If you think you've made a mistake, let me know.

     4/28:

Your chapter 17 "To Kill a Mockingbird" quiz is due tomorrow (4/29) at 3:30 p.m.  The easiest way to access/submit it is on Teams.  But it has been posted as a "4/27" blog post here on my teacher page if you're not able to get on Teams.  You'll need to e-mail me your answers at rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org.

    Makeup work:

The best way to access/submit this work is on Teams.  If you are not on Teams, look at my blog post entitled "4/3," and send me the answer via e-mail.  This makeup work is due tomorrow (4/29) by 3:30 p.m. Students who are exempt from this work because they have already done it are as follows:  Angelina, Joshua, Zandrea, Matthew, Lizeth, Julian.

    4/27:

I want you to start working on the chapter 17 "To Kill a Mockingbird" quiz.  It is due Wednesday (4/29).  The easiest way to access/submit it is on Teams.  But I will post it as a "4/27" blog post here on my teacher page if you're not able to get on Teams.  You'll need to e-mail me your answers at rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org.

    Makeup work:

You can access/submit this makeup work on Teams.  Or, you can look at my blog post entitled "4/2," and send me the answer via e-mail.  This makeup work is due tomorrow by 3:30 p.m.  Students who are exempt from this work because they have already done it are as follows:  Angelina, Joshua, Zandrea, Zeliah, Shivma, Matthew, Lizeth, and Julian.

    4/24:

At this point, chapter 17 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" should be read.  I will continue to question you about it on Monday.  Keep up if you'd like to pass the class!

We are going to devote the day to makeup work because many of you have *A LOT* of it that you need to do.  A small handful of you will have *NO* English work today -- other than possibly moving forward in the novel (if you choose) and getting ahead of the game.  To those students, have a great weekend!  Your hard, consistent work is paying off now.  See the names I listed below to find out if you are exempt from one or both assignments.

    Makeup work:

Once again, you will be completing 2 makeup assignments.  If you keep following this very manageable schedule, you *WILL* succeed in making up the work.  This work is due on Monday (4/27) at 3:30 p.m.  It is available to access/submit on Teams.  Or you can access it here and submit to me via e-mail (rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org).

    1)  Hit the "8th Grade Blog" tab on the homepage.  Go to the blog post entitled "3/30," and answer the question.  You will need to have the proper chapter *OPEN* as you answer the question.  And if you have not read the chapter, that is *FIRST* thing you will need to do!  The students who do not need to do this assignment are Lizeth, Angelina, Joshua, Zandrea, and Matthew.

    2)  Hit the "8th Grade Blog" tab on the homepage.  Go to the blog post entitled "3/31," and answer the question.  Do *NOT* answer the question without having the book open to the proper chapter.  And do *NOT* answer the question without having first read the chapter (that is pointless!).  The students who are exempt from this assignment are Joshua, Lizeth, Alexa, Angelina, Zandrea, and Matthew.

    4/23:

At this point, chapter 17 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" should be read.

You should be working on the quiz entitled "Courtroom" (access it through Teams or through my blog post entitled "4/20").  It is due at 3:30 p.m. today.  Some of you have already done it, and you did a great job.

    Makeup Work:

Starting today, I'm giving you time to make up work because some of you are currently failing English.  What I'm going to ask you to do is *VERY* manageable and *VERY* necessary:

Go back to the "8th Grade Blog" tab.  Scroll down to the blog post entitled "Chapter 13."  Answer the question on it about the Golden Rule.  The only people who are exempt (meaning, don't need to do the makeup work) are Lizeth, Angelina, Joshua, and Alexa Guzman.

And finally, go to the next blog post.  It's called "Chapter 13, Continued."  Answer the question about Aunt Alexandra and heredity.  The people who do *NOT* have to do this assignment (because they already did it) are Joshua, Lizeth, Agelina, and Alexa Guzman.

You will do 2 makeup blog posts every day until you have completed the missing assignments.  Needless to say, if you have skipped chapters preceding chapter 17, you will need to read these chapters.  The book won't make sense unless you have read  *ALL* chapters.

    4/22:

If you haven't completed chapter 17 of "To Kill a Mockingbird," you need to do so by the end of today.

You should be working on the quiz called "Courtroom."  It is due on Thursday (4/23) at 3:30 p.m.  The easiest way to access/submit it is via Teams.  But for those of you who don't have access to Teams, you can find the quiz on my blog-post entitled "4/20."  You will e-mail me your answers (rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org).

Those of you who plan *NOT* to do the work I've been assigning, please take 5-10 minutes to write me an e-mail explaining how you plan to pass 8th grade English.  Do you have a schedule for how you're going to make up your assignments?  Do you have pictures of completed work that perhaps you just haven't sent me yet?  Fill me in about what's going on!

    4/21:

You should be finishing chapter 17 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" today.  It is due tomorrow.

You should be working on the quiz called "Courtroom."  It's due Thursday at 3:30.  The easiest way to access it is via Teams.  But if you're not on Teams, simply go to my "4/20" blog post, here on my teacher page.  You'll see the quiz.  Send me the answers via e-mail.  Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.

    4/20:

If you're on Teams, access the quiz entitled "Courtroom."  The quiz will be due Thursday at 3:30.  Some of the answers will require that you've read chapter 17, so you might not be able to answer every question right away.  ***You don't need to see the 8th Grade Blog today if you're on Teams.

If you're not on Teams, go to the "8th Grade Blog," and see my blog post entitled "4/20."

    4/17:

    4/14:

Go to the 8th Grade Blog for instructions -- to the post entitled "4/14."

Chapter 16 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is due tomorrow.

You've got 1 iReady assignment due tomorrow.

Skills Navigator assignments are due 4/20.

    4/13

Begin reading chapter 16 of "To Kill a Mockingbird."  You need to finish it by Wednesday.

Go to the 8th Grade Blog, to the "4/13" post.  Answer the question (it's about chapter 15):

You have one iReady assignment waiting for you on Clever.  The assignment is due Wednesday.  Kids have been telling me they're stressed out, so I'm trying to give a bit less work and a bit more time to complete assignments.  Hope this helps!

Skills Navigator assignments are due 4/20.  If you don't see 3 assignments in your account, contact the teacher who is in charge of you for Skills Navigator (me, Mrs. DeLucia, or Mr. Webb).

    Due 4/10:

Since this would have been your Spring Break week, we're going to take a break from our normal reading.  Instead, you will create a Quarantine Diary.  Every day this week, I want you to write at least a page-and-a-half about your quarantine experience.  Some things you can choose to include (but don't have to include them all):  What were your activities?  What were some things that you missed or that made you frustrated or sad?  What were some things you enjoyed?  What were some realizations (about life, about relationships, about yourself) that you had?  Make sure to title each diary entry with the date.  Make sure to add a new diary entry every day (Monday through Friday).  On Friday, send me your 5-days' worth of diary entries at rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org.

Your next Skills Navigator cycle ends 4/20.  If you don't see 3 assignments in your account, contact Mrs. DeLucia if you're her student, me if you're in 8-1 and *NOT* Mrs. DeLucia's student, or Mr. Webb if you're in 8-2.

8-1 students (non-DeLucia):  Go the "Discussion" page, and see if you got credit for doing the past cycle of Skills Navigator.  If you feel I made a mistake, e-mail me, or leave a comment on the page.

    Due 4/6:

Get on the 8th Grade Blog.  You will find a writing assignment and a due date.  If you have any questions about it, feel free to reach out.

Skills Navigator is due on Monday.  If you don't find 3 assignments in your account, reach out to the teacher in charge of you for Skills Naviagator.

If you need to catch up on previous assignments, you will find them below.

    Due 4/3:

Get on the 8th Grade Blog and comment on the post entitled "4/2."  Do *NOT* bother giving me an answer copied from the internet -- you won't get credit.  Put some thought into it.  You don't have to comment immediately.  Look at the question, go back to the text, re-read if necessary.

Do the 2 assignments I left for you on iReady.  With those, too, take your time.  No one should be getting 0% or 50% on an assignment!

Skills Navigator assignments are due 4/6.

If you did not complete this week's work, see posts below, and complete it.  You will *NOT* pass English if you're not doing the work.

    Due 4/2:

Chapter 15 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is due tomorrow.  Keep reading -- and re-reading where necessary.

I have not added a blog question today since you need to be reading chapter 15.  But those of you who have not answered my previous blog questions need to get onto the 8th Grade Blog (see my homepage tabs) and make sure you've answered the question posed in every post.

I left 2 assignments for you in iReady, but they will not post till tomorrow (not sure why the program didn't allow me to post today, but it didn't).  Many of you are not doing your iReady assignments.  A few of you are doing them but receiving failing grades, which tells me that you're wokring too quickly.  1 or 2 of you are doing excellent work.  Contact me via e-mail if you want to know which category you fall into.

Skills Navigator assignments are due 4/6.  If you're a Mrs. DeLucia student and don't see 3 assignments in your accounts, contact Mrs. DeLucia.

If you didn't do assignments from earlier in the week, see below.  All work must be completed.

    Due 4/1:

Get on the 8th Grade Blog and leave a comment on the post entitled "3/31."  You will not receive credit if your words/thoughts are copied from the internet.  You will not receive credit if you're not answering my question and showing me that you read the chapter.  And you will not receive credit if you do not attach your name.

Read chapter 15 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" for Thursday.

Go on my Clever page.  You will find 2 assignments waiting for you in iReady.  Both have to do with vocabulary.

Skills Navigator assignments are due 4/6.  If you're a Mrs. DeLucia student and don't see 3 assignments in your accounts, contact Mrs. DeLucia.

If you didn't do yesterday's and/or Friday's work, see below.

    Due 3/31:

Read chapter 14 of "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Get onto the 8th Grade Blog (see homepage) and leave a comment on the post entiteld "3/30."

Log onto Clever.  You have 2 new assignments -- one has you analyzing the central idea of a text; the other has you working with poetry.

If you didn't do your work on Friday, you need to complete it.  I've left it below (where it says "Due 3/30").

    Due 3/30:

Go to my blog post entitled "Chapter 13, continued..."  (*** note:  I've consolidated the 8-1 and 8-2 blogs into one blog called "8th Grade Blog.").  I've given you a key quotation from chapter 13 that I'd like you to leave a comment on.  I've also assigned a paragraph that is due Monday, no later than 3:15 (send to rpagano@yonkerspublicschools.org).

Log onto Clever.  I've left 2 new assignments due Monday.  One has you summarizing a literary (fictional) text; the other has you summarizing an informational text.

Skills Navigator assignments are due 4/6.
