Aníbal Soler, Jr.

Anibal Soler, Jr. brings over two decades of dedication and proven leadership in education to his role as Superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools, starting May 1, 2024. With a solid track record in urban school districts, Mr. Soler most recently served as Superintendent of the Schenectady City School District, where he implemented a transformative community schools initiative that significantly enhanced access to health and social services for students, fostering an inclusive educational environment.

His tenure in Batavia as Superintendent is notable for securing the district's first-ever My Brother’s Keeper Family and Community Engagement Grant, focusing on elevating young men of color. Mr. Soler also pioneered the adoption of a robust policy on Equity, Inclusivity, and Diversity in Education, which has set a foundation for a more equitable learning environment.

Under his leadership, both Batavia and Schenectady witnessed successful budget management processes that maintained educational quality without increasing taxes. His adept negotiation skills were crucial in finalizing several key bargaining agreements, which contributed to stable and progressive educational settings.

While serving as Associate Superintendent of Strategic Alignment and Innovation at Buffalo Public Schools, Mr. Soler led the Strong Community Schools strategy, revitalizing 21 schools and directly impacting approximately 11,000 students by improving their academic standings from "struggling" or "failing" to "good standing."

Mr. Soler’s strategic prowess was also evident through his development and implementation of a comprehensive reopening plan during the COVID-19 pandemic that ensured the continuity of in-person instruction for English language learners, special education, and at-risk students, without resulting in any layoffs.

Mr. Soler holds a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Daemen College, a Master of Science in Educational Technology from Nazareth College, and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from St. John Fisher College. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Manhattanville College.

Married with four children, Mr. Soler is passionately committed to propelling Yonkers Public Schools into a new era of academic excellence and community collaboration. His appointment by a unanimous decision reflects the Board's confidence in his vision and leadership capabilities to enhance the educational landscape in Yonkers.
