High School Diploma Requirements

  • A total of 22 credits are required to graduate. High school students who attend Saunders Trades and Technical High School or the International Baccalaureate Programme at Yonkers Middle/High School have additional graduation requirements.

    A student identified as having an educational disability may be excused from the Language Other Than English (L.O.T.E.) requirement if such student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) indicates that such requirements are not appropriate for the student’s special educational needs.

    Must pass 5 of the following with a grade of 65:

    English Regents, Math Regents, Global History Regents , U.S. History Regents, Science and Lab Regents or Regents Competency Tests (RCT)

    Students with Disabilities Assessments: Low Pass Safety Net Option 1: 5 required Regents exams with a score of 55 or better as follows: 1 Math, 1 Science, 1 ELA, 1 Global History and Geography, 1 US History and Government;

    Regents Competency Test (RCT) Safety Net Option 2: For students entering grade 9 prior to September 2011, passing score on corresponding RCT if student does not achieve a score of 55 or higher on the Regents examination or Compensatory Safety Net Option 3: Scores between 45-54 on one or more of the five required Regents exams, other than the ELA or mathematics exam, but compensates the low score with a score of 65 or higher on another required Regents exam. Note: a score of at least 55 must be earned on both the ELA and mathematics exams. A score of 65 or higher on a single examination may not be used to compensate for more than one examination for which a score of 45-54 is earned.

    Students with disabilities may graduate with a Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential which is a non-diploma high school exiting credential awarded provided the student has attended school for not less than 12 years, excluding Kindergarten.

  • Regents Diploma

    New York State Board of Regents approved moving to 65 as the passing score for Regents Exams. General education students must pass all five required Regents exams at a score of 65 or above.
