New Yonkers History Project option on Distance Learning

A new Yonkers History Project focused on the history that is being made today, called Living History, is posted on the Yonkers Public Schools Distance Learning website.

The project allows students, PK-12, to reflect upon the historical changes that they are living through in a variety of ways – from visual to written expression. (This option is in addition to the Breaking Barriers and Yonkers’ Transformations Through Time Yonkers History projects.)
A gallery walk of student work featuring all three project types will be displayed on the Yonkers Public Schools Distance Learning site by the Week of June 22. Projects should be submitted using the submission form located on this site no later than June 18. The Yonkers History Project was conceptualized in 2018 by Mayor Mike Spano and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Quezada. The Yonkers History Project on Distance Learning includes • An Overview of the Project and Project Ideas • Additional ways to engage with the project: Capturing History By Being a Journalist, The Post Card Project and The Social Justice Project (opening this weekend) • A folder of historical photos that may inspire students to reflect upon changes in their community. • A brief video showing highlights from the 2019 Yonkers History Day •
The Submission Form

A gallery of student work will be displayed during the Week of June 22, 2020.

5/11

Dear parents and guardians,

I hope this finds you well.

I have heard your feedback and  witnessed the challenges of having children in multiple grades.  With that in mind, I have designed one project for all the grades. Of course, the lesson has some modification according to skills/levels, but that is developmentally unavoidable.

As an additional option: If doing/teaching this lesson is a hardship, consider sending in instead:

-A drawing of a character from the an english assignment. EJ: A fish drawing  or a  cat in a hat from a Dr Seuss book.
-A science diagram/image from a science lesson. EJ: a drawing of a plant because you have grown peas.
-A culture specific image from a social studies lesson. EJ: A drawing of a mummy as you class may be studying Egypt.

If you choose that option remember to have your child color the whole page, background and foreground.

Here is the link to the Zentangle art assignment, due Tuesday, May 26th. The lesson on Teams.

Finished projects can be uploaded in Teams or send as an email.
