  • Dear Parents/Guardians!

Congratulations to over 100 students who read over 300 minutes and submitted a reading log or participated in SUMDOG, a mathematics computer-based program. These students will receive a bag of Takis snack (a child’s favorite), a reading certificate, and a book prior to the February Break. Special recognition goes to the following students who ‘took ownership’ of their math learning by engaging with SUMDOG:

    ·         Abbi---1B…4 hours and 22 minutes!  Outstanding!!!!

    ·         Jayla--- Class 6N… 2 hours and 41 minutes!  Way to go!

    ·         Nathaniel---5M…  1 hour and 32 minutes!  Good effort!

    ·         Shujeidy---1B…92 minutes!  Terrific!

    ·         Yusuf---84 minutes!  Way to take ownership of your learning!

If students were engaged in SUMDOG and submitted a reading log that totals over 300 minutes, they will receive the prizes.  We encourage all of our students to read and utilize Clever on a daily basis to ‘take ownership of their learning’.  Clever brings all K12 applications into one secure portal and provide single sign-on for everyone such as:

    ·         BrainPop, Jr for our younger students

    ·         Duolingo and BrainPop ELL for our ELL and Dual Language

    ·         BrainPop, ReadTheory, Benchmark Education, and SUMDOG

Clever provides many different computer-based educational programs.  Students can sign on with a Clever Badge or with their password.  If your child has misplaced her or his badge, email me (ebeglane@yonkerspublicschools.org) and we will fix that problem.

Our Dual Language program is in its fourth year at TCA from Pre-K to Grade 3. All three Pre-K classes and both Kindergarten classes are Dual Language.  We are the only school in Yonkers that provides Dual Language instruction.  Our goal for our Dual Language students is for them to be bi-literate in English and Spanish by the time they move to Grade 7.  (Our school is a PK-Grade 6 school!)   Dual language programs foster bilingualism, biliteracy, enhanced awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, and high levels of academic achievement through instruction in English and Spanish.  If you are interested in learning more about the Dual Language program at Thomas Cornell Academy, please feel free to contact me at (14 376-8315 or ebeglane@yonkerspublicschools.org

     Keep persevering!
