Board of Education Appoints Mr. Jamell Scott Principal of Barack Obama School for Social Justice
Upon the recommendation of Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr., the Yonkers Board of Education appointed Mr. Jamell Scott as the new principal of Barack Obama School for Social Justice at its August Stated Meeting.

First Time Riders Bus Safety Program

The Conference of Big 5 School Districts announced that Yonkers Board of Education President Dr. Rosalba Corrado DelVecchio was appointed Vice-Chair of the advocacy organization. Ms. Tamica Barnett, President of the Syracuse Board of Education, will serve as Chair.

Call for Nominations: Teachers of the Year
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Kiwanis Club, in collaboration with the City of Yonkers and Yonkers Board of Education, will present the 2024 Teacher of the Year Awards to three deserving members of the Yonkers Public Schools’ faculty. Students, parents, teachers, and administrators can begin submitting nominations through March 1, 2024.

In a historic 8-0 vote, the Yonkers Board of Education has confirmed Mr. Anibal Soler Jr. as the new Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Soler, an esteemed leader in urban education, will begin his tenure on May 1, 2024, following a rigorous national search process that started on July 1, 2023.
