Mayor Spano Reappoints Dr. Sayegh to BOE

(May 23, 2017) Mayor Mike Spano today announced Dr. Nader Sayegh has been reappointed to the Yonkers Board of Education.

As a trustee of the Board of Education, Dr. Sayegh joins eight other members to represent the official policy making body of the Yonkers Public School District.  He previously served a full term, including three years as Board President.

“As we work toward providing our students with the best education possible, I am proud to reappoint Dr. Nader Sayegh to the Yonkers Board of Education,” said Mayor Spano.  “Dr. Sayegh is a proven leader who has always made the students of Yonkers his top priority.  He has established several successful committees and has lobbied hard for changes in the New York State Aid formula, which has historically shortchanged our schools over the years.  I’m proud that he will continue to be a member of our dynamic Board of Education.”

Dr. Sayegh is the chair of the Instructional Affairs Committee. He is a member of the Policy, Facilities, Long Range District Planning, Receivership, Transportation, and Audit, Budget and Finance committees. Dr. Sayegh is the liaison to the Conference of Large City Boards, where he is also the current Vice-President. He also serves as alternate liaison to the New York State School Boards Association.

Dr. Sayegh, a product of the City’s school system, has been an educator and administrator for nearly 45 years and has held various principal and leadership positions within the Yonkers Public Schools.  Sayegh holds an Associate’s Degree from Westchester Community College, a Bachelor of Arts from Lehman College, a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Fairleigh Dickerson University, a Professional Diploma (P.D.) in Administration and Supervision from Fordham University and a Juris Doctor of Law Degree from Pace University School of Law.  Sayegh is the principal partner of the Law Office of Nader J. Sayegh Esq. in the City of Yonkers.

“I would like to thank Mayor Mike Spano for my reappointment to the Yonkers Board of Education for a new five year term,” said Dr. Nader Sayegh.  “As the Mayor’s first appointment to the Board of Education, I was part of an aggressive and proactive agenda by the Trustees to encourage a more open and transparent initiative to involve all of our education partners and stakeholders toward the process, policies and the delivery of necessary educational, social and cultural services to all of our students.  Our district is led by an excellent Superintendent, Dr. Edwin Quezada and an extremely active board led by its President Rev. Steve Lopez. Together working with our City Administration, Mayor Mike Spano, our State Delegation, PTA and our Labor Organizations, we will continue to make the Yonkers Public Schools the best in the State.”
