NY State Education Department Nominates Two Seniors as U.S. Presidential Scholars

Congratulations to Litzy Mejia and Adam Taber on their nominations for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Litzy, a senior at Palisade Prep and Adam, a senior at Yonkers Middle High School, were two of 25 students statewide nominated by the New York State Education Department.

Established in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, the Presidential Scholars program is one of the highest honors a high school student can achieve.

Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa remarked, "these students have shown excellence in their academics as well as their artistic and technical endeavors."

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins was "so pleased that Litzy has beeen nominated. What makes (her) unique is her involvement with her community and her eagerness to take advantage of every opportunity.

Senator Shelley B.Mayor was equally delighted by Adam's nomination. "Adam's fortitude and triumph in the face of adversity is a testament to the resiliency of his spirit."
