During the first week of ELA lessons (September 9-10), students will be learning the classroom routines and will be preparing their materials for the first unit. It is very important that all students have (2) Journals for ELA.
When the second week begins, students will begin their first unit.
7th Grade will read "A Long Walk to Water" and explore the experiences of those who survived the Sudanese Civil War. This unit centers on the cultural experiences of Sudanese tribes.
8th Grade will read "Inside Out and Back Again" and explore the experiences of those involved in the Vietnam war. This unit centers on cultural experiences of those in Southwest Asia.
Throughout unit 1, both 7th grade and 8th grade classes will rely on Thinking Maps to keep track of all information explored throughout the reading. Each lesson's work will be used in the final project for the unit. It is important that students have their Journals every day.
