On Thursday, March 6, 2025, our 8th Graders ventured out on their annual 8th Grade trip to Frost Valley YMCA in Caryville, NY. They layered-up for a full day of outdoor fun, with activities including a snowy 3.5-mile hike to a picturesque waterfall, zip lining, cable-bridge river-crossing, and team-building games, all while having fun and learning about themselves.
Students experienced activities that were completely new in an environment that was both beautiful and adventurous. They learned the importance of being prepared in the outdoors, persevering through challenging situations, and working as a team. Groups cycled between activities with the teachers and Frost Valley Guides throughout the day and took turns completing tasks. Student Declan Breen shared about the experience, "Probably one of the best experiences I've had. The view of the waterfall was incredible, truly a fun and life changing trip".
Students were treated to lunch and dinner in the dining hall, which is served and cleaned up camp style. Following dinner, they enjoyed a campfire by the fireplace where they ate s'mores and watched campfire skits performed by students, guides, and staff. Student Joseph Davis had this to say about the trip, "My favorite part was how exciting it was. I loved the ziplining, the hike, and cable-bridge-crossing. All the activities had my heart rate going up, and I like that."
Middle School ELA Teacher and trip coordinator, Mrs. Bellino-Fagan said, "I love the ability to connect with students on this trip. It brings them together in a place where they wouldn't usually be, doing things they wouldn't normally do. The experiences were amazing and enriching. They all happily worked together to overcome obstacles they have never encountered and grow as individuals. I saw deep connections being made among students that will last a lifetime."
