On Thursday February 26, 2026, School 5 celebrated its First Annual Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future: School 5 Black History Read Aloud event. YPD Commissioner Sapienza and the Yonkers Guardians read aloud to students in 1st through 5th grades. The students were excited and engaged in the stories of the bravery and perseverance of African Americans throughout the course of our history. Students were also inspired by stories read by our Superintendent Aníbal Soler, Jr. and Associate Superintendent Dr. Frank Hernandez. We look forward to this amazing collaboration continuing annually.

My Brother's Keeper Kick Off Event
School 5 hosted our My Brother's Keeper Kick Off on January 20, 2026 in the Library.
Students and families were engaged and motivated by empowering speeches from Superintendent Aníbal Soler, Jr., Dr. Frank Hernandez, Dr. Marvin Robinson III, Mr. Kenny Grant, Mr. Greg Joyner, Dr. Baez, and Ms. White. They were also inspired by MBK Ambassador Cameron Williams and MBK Yonkers Alumni member Jason Martinez. Our School 5 MBK staff leaders, Coach Hogue, Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Johnson are looking forward to building connection and progress throughout the year.
Our dedicated middle school young men created self portraits with our art teacher, Ms. Petrino, to be displayed during this impactful event.
We are looking forward to an exciting year filled with growth and opportunities for the young men of School 5.

We’re thrilled to welcome Brenda Cardoza, the new Yonkers Public Schools Parent Coordinator! Ms Cardoza is a long-time advocate and trusted voice for our families. Her work will center on strengthening parent engagement and supporting our vulnerable student population, particularly those served under the McKinney-Vento Act, which addresses the needs of students experiencing homelessness. Surrounding Ms. Cardoza is Associate Superintendent Lissette Colón-Collins (left), and Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr. (right).

Good morning Yonkers Public Schools! Today, Monday, September 15, 2025, is a "C" Day. But, wait! The week begins with a C and ends with an A? You've got this. 💯 Carpe Diem!

Pre-K Families!
We are excited to welcome you and your child to School 5 for Pre-K Orientation on Tuesday, September 2, from 1:45–2:45 PM. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and begin building the home to school connection that is so important to your child’s success.
To help us stay organized and ensure your child’s supplies are ready for use, we kindly ask that all school supplies be clearly labeled with your child’s full name before bringing them in. This will make distribution in the classroom smooth and efficient.
We look forward to seeing you at orientation and starting the year together with joy and purpose!
