YONKERS, NY- August 18, 2026- The report card is in - Yonkers High School ranks #7 in New York State for College Readiness, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings. Overall, YHS ranks #9 in the state, #38 in the New York Metro Area and #521 out of nearly 18,000 schools across the nation.

According to U.S. News and World Report, “A great high school educates all of its students from different social and economic backgrounds, exposing them to challenging coursework on the path to graduation. The highest-ranked U.S. public schools in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings are those whose students demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math, reading and science state assessments, earned qualifying scores on an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.”
The cornerstone of the rigorous curriculum at Yonkers High School is the International Baccalaureate program, an education model centered on international understanding and peace. As part of the IB program, students are members of a “community of caring learners” who volunteer and give back to society. The report noted that 89% of students took at least one IB exam.
Regarding subject proficiency, U.S. News found YHS students exceeded the state average for math and reading and were just about even for science. With a graduation rate of 91%, YHS earned an overall score of 97.1 in the national ranking.
