Good Afternoon GHS Families,
This message is to serve as a reminder for two events coming this week:
-Tomorrow, Saturday, 9/19 is the Coffee w/the Principal event, which will take place in the library from 9-11am. This event is a town hall discussion to set the pace and expectations for the new year, as well as to discuss NYS changes through Portrait of a Graduate.
-Thursday, 9/24 will be the GHS Open House and senior parent meeting. Senior families should arrive at 5:00pm for a meeting that leads to our full open house which begins at 6:00pm.

We will host our annual open house parent event on Thursday, September 24,2026 from 6-8pm. Senior class parents will have a senior parent night from 5-6pm in the library that night followed by the open house.

We wanted to remind you that this week is our first full week of school, and it's time for us to begin strict enforcement of the following policies/rules:
-Internet enabled devices are banned in school, ALL STUDENTS ARE MANDATED TO USE A YONDR POUCH TO STORE INTERNET ENABLED DEVICES! We will begin our tiered approach to the enforcement of this on Monday, which means that all students need to replace lost or broken pouches ASAP. We will no longer be holding phones for students who violate this rule multiple times, this will result in the loss of privilege to bring a phone to school.
-Arrivals will be from 7:20a-9:30a. No students will be allowed entry after 9:30a unless given permission by parent with a written note or unless their schedule starts after that time.
-lastly, we will be enforcing the YPS dress code according to the code of character, conduct and support.

Sorry for the late communication, I had a pressing matter to attend to, however, I did not want the day to end without thanking our ENTIRE community for a very successful opening of schools at GHS!
A slight delay during arrivals aside (new students learning the system, a necessary delay on day 1), the day was smooth, full of eager learners and happy staff! I look forward to another successful school year with all of you!

Welcome to the 2026-27 School year at Charles E Gorton HS! School begins tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 3rd with first period beginning at 7:45am sharp. 9th grade students who have yet to receive their yondr pouch will receive one tomorrow, however, ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO BRING THEIR YONDR POUCHES AND SECURE ALL INTERNET ENABLED DEVICES. There are no exceptions. If you lost or broke your pouch, you must purchase a new pouch for $30 with a check or money order ONLY, NO CASH.
We advise all students to write out or print their schedules, which can be found on PowerSchool, prior to attending the first day to minimize congestion during arrivals. Students can pick up paper copies of their schedules at their first period class.

All elementary science teachers, secondary science teachers, administrators, and #YonkersPublicSchools parents are most welcome!
Learn about the Grades 5 & 8 Science Tests, Regents exams, new lab investigations, New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), and much more.
Parents will also get tips on supporting their students in science and preparing for state tests. New York State Education Department (NYSED) representatives will present, and light snacks will be provided.
