School 5's MSK hosted a wonderful panel event on April 30 where the young women of MSK were able to ask questions about resilience, hope and letting their light shine! What a beautiful and inspirational experience for our 7th and 8th grade MSK girls!
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Ms. White, Ms. Fountain Coleman, Ms. Stefo, Ms. Perez, Ms. Medina, Ms. Agosto and Ms. Rauso the "lights that shine bright at School 5" were able to engage in a lively and motivating discussion with the Honorable Lakisha Collins Bellamy, Esq- City Council President, the Honorable Deana Norman - Minority Whip, the Honorable Tasha Diaz- Chair of the Yonkers Education Committee and the Honorable Corazon Pineda Isaac-Yonkers City Council Representative of the 2nd District.

Building on last year’s success, we are coming together to support two very special members of our school family: Brenda Cardoza, whose dedication and compassion have touched so many lives, and Belen Ruiz Benito, a brave second-grade student at Enrico Fermi School whose strength and courage have inspired our entire community.

On Thursday February 26, 2026, School 5 celebrated its First Annual Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future: School 5 Black History Read Aloud event. YPD Commissioner Sapienza and the Yonkers Guardians read aloud to students in 1st through 5th grades. The students were excited and engaged in the stories of the bravery and perseverance of African Americans throughout the course of our history. Students were also inspired by stories read by our Superintendent Aníbal Soler, Jr. and Associate Superintendent Dr. Frank Hernandez. We look forward to this amazing collaboration continuing annually.









Due to school closures, we will be celebrating the 100th Day of school on March 4th!

All elementary science teachers, secondary science teachers, administrators, and #YonkersPublicSchools parents are most welcome!
Learn about the Grades 5 & 8 Science Tests, Regents exams, new lab investigations, New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), and much more.
Parents will also get tips on supporting their students in science and preparing for state tests. New York State Education Department (NYSED) representatives will present, and light snacks will be provided.

My Brother's Keeper Kick Off Event
School 5 hosted our My Brother's Keeper Kick Off on January 20, 2026 in the Library.
Students and families were engaged and motivated by empowering speeches from Superintendent Aníbal Soler, Jr., Dr. Frank Hernandez, Dr. Marvin Robinson III, Mr. Kenny Grant, Mr. Greg Joyner, Dr. Baez, and Ms. White. They were also inspired by MBK Ambassador Cameron Williams and MBK Yonkers Alumni member Jason Martinez. Our School 5 MBK staff leaders, Coach Hogue, Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Johnson are looking forward to building connection and progress throughout the year.
Our dedicated middle school young men created self portraits with our art teacher, Ms. Petrino, to be displayed during this impactful event.
We are looking forward to an exciting year filled with growth and opportunities for the young men of School 5.
