On this 25th anniversary, NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Mayor Mike Spano, Yonkers City Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy and the Yonkers community came together at the annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to remember with gratitude, honor with reverence, and carry the stories forward.
We were especially proud to see Adonis Crosby, a 7th-grade student, represent the Robert Halmi Film & Television Academy and speak at this morning’s ceremony.

🍎 A week ago today, the School 23 family welcomed students and staff home for a magical first day of school!
Superintendent Dr. Soler and Associate Superintendent Dr. Hernandez joined students and staff in celebrating the excitement, smiles, and energy of a brand-new school year.
This year also marks an exciting new chapter for Principal Shojai, who joins School 23 after serving as an assistant principal at Gorton High School. We’re excited to welcome him to his new role!

Last week, Superintendent Dr. Soler visited the Barack Obama School for Social Justice on the first day of school to welcome students and staff and celebrate the start of a new school year!
This year also marks an exciting new chapter for Principal Pritchett and Assistant Principals Mr. Mack and Ms. Scott as they join the Barack Obama School for Social Justice administrative team. 📚✨ Yonkers Public Schools Teaching Assistants (TAs) returned last week, engaging in four hands-on professional learning workshops designed to strengthen their instructional toolbox.
They explored Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and learned effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic support strategies to prepare for a successful school year.

At the 9th Annual Back-to-School Drive, Kahlil Gibran School Safety Officer Nancy Maldonado provided 550 backpacks filled with school supplies through her Forever Smiling Foundation to honor the memory of her son, Jonathan.
Nancy’s dedication to giving back was also recognized with proclamations from New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and the Westchester County Board of Legislators.

📚 Superintendent Dr. Soler proudly welcomed 32 new teachers to Yonkers Public Schools this week!
As part of the V.I.S.I.O.N.S. (Viable Instructional Strategies in Orienting New Staff) training, our newest educators are connecting with Associate Superintendents and Executive Directors responsible for each subject area. They’re learning about innovative instructional tools, effective strategies, and best practices for teaching and learning across YPS.
We’re excited to have you as part of the #YonkersPublicSchools family and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in the classrooms!

At the heart of the Administrators’ Retreat was the #YonkersMagic - our shared commitment to making every student and family feel welcomed, valued, and supported in our schools.
They participated in engaging trainings and presentations, including CPR, operational priorities, new curriculum initiatives, and more!
