The legacy of Christa McAuliffe reminds us that teachers inspire far beyond the classroom. 🚀
Forty years ago, she was chosen by NASA as the first teacher to travel into space—symbolizing the limitless reach of education. Today, we honor her courage, her passion for learning, and her desire to “touch the future.”
The legacy of Christa McAuliffe and the entire Space Shuttle Challenger crew continue to live on.

Four was the lucky number of the day—4 games were played, 4 student-athletes were named MVPs, and 4 students were recognized for exemplifying outstanding sportsmanship.
The MLK Jr. Day Showcase was a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together and support the teams. Congratulations to everyone who participated and a special shout-out to our award winners!

The Superintendent’s Student Leadership Advisory Council (SSLAC) recently shared their perspectives on graduation rates, school climate, and chronic absenteeism. Students also engaged in thoughtful discussions about curriculum in all core subjects and their day-to-day school experiences, including the cell phone restriction policy.
SSLAC ensures student voices are heard - speaking directly with the Superintendent about what matters most to them and the students in their buildings. Even more exciting, high school council members were invited by the Community Advancement and Recruitment Officer, Effie Phillips, from the City of Yonkers Mayor’s Office to join the city’s Youth Advisory Board. #YonkersMagic

Superintendent Soler and MBK Executive Director, Dr. Robinson, set the tone by sharing the meaning and mission of MBK. Principal Dr. Baez, along with School 5's MBK Chapter Leader and former NFL player Mr. Hogue, brought the message home by showing what leadership looks like in action.
Guided by MBK Coordinator Mr. Joyner, students learned about the libation ceremony, grounding the moment in tradition. The celebration came full circle as MBK ambassadors Cameron Williams and Jason Martinez, now attending Pace University, returned to share how MBK continues to positively shape their journeys.
This is leadership. Congratulations, School 5!
