In celebration of Black History Month, Ella Fitzgerald Academy proudly welcomed Lieutenant Charles Walker, Detective Specialist Rachelle Sainten, and seven police officers from the Yonkers Police Department (YPD) for a special read-aloud. 📚

Their visit sparked meaningful dialogue about perseverance, leadership, and the importance of community. As a heartfelt thank-you, students presented the YPD with handmade drawings, and they were honored with certificates of appreciation.

Officers in attendance included: Quinasia Jackson, Fredrick Robinson, Gregory Boney, Kevin Henry, Devin Ali, Jared Pinto and Adeza Imadadon.

🏈 The New York Giants Team hosted Girls and Women in Sports Day at MetLife Stadium, giving three Yonkers Girls Varsity Flag Football athletes—Maritza Fajardo (Yonkers Middle High School Senior), Sabrina Soares (Roosevelt High School Senior), and Naula Isa (Saunders High School Junior)—the opportunity to proudly represent Yonkers Public Schools alongside other Section 1 flag football players.

The day began with an inspiring panel featuring women working in leadership roles across sports-related careers and concluded with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of MetLife Stadium.

🏀🏆 This month, seven Yonkers Public Schools, along with Roy C Ketcham High School proudly participated in the 9th annual MLK Jr Day Showcase, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through teamwork, excellence, and sportsmanship.

Four was the lucky number of the day—4 games were played, 4 student-athletes were named MVPs, and 4 students were recognized for exemplifying outstanding sportsmanship.

The MLK Jr. Day Showcase was a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together and support the teams. Congratulations to everyone who participated and a special shout-out to our award winners!
