Welcome to School 17
Speech & Language Program
Students receiving speech and language therapy at School 17 work diligently throughout the school year. Although each student have their own individual goals, a priority in the therapeutic arena is to facilitate and optimize each student's potential with regards to his or her expressive and receptive language skills. Students are encouraged to make their "brain connections" and learn how to identify their own learning strategies during their speech time. Activities include focusing on auditory memory, speech enunciation, problem solving, utilizing good grammar skills and utilizing good pragmatics in social situations to name a few. To help with carryover and generalization of concepts learned during therapy sessions homework is given.
A Note to Parents: You play a great part in facilitating the carryover of concepts learned in therapy. Thank you for all that you do! Please continue to encourage your child to complete speech homework assignments. You are an integral part of the Speech and Language program and team. I look forward to a wonderful year working with all of our speech and language students.
