Hispanic Heritage Month Activity
Our class has been studying different types of Latin/Caribbean dances, such as Merengue, Cha-Cha, Bachata, and Jarabe Tapatio. We have primarily focused on learning how to do the basic steps of Salsa (on 2 New York Style).

There are 2 specific types of Salsa styles generally found in New York: Ballroom and New York style. When a person is doing Ballroom style, he or she is dancing on one (of the beat). Here the male moves forward first as the female flows backwards. When an individual is dancing New York Style he or she is dancing on 2. Here the male moves back as the female moves forward. As couples dance the man represents a frame and the ladies are the picture (the spotlight is always on her).
