Overview:
The 7th and 8th health curriculum is designed to be standards-based in a learner-centered environment. Students will be regularly engaged in instruction that will provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to be safe and healthy while guiding each student towards a health-enhancing lifestyle.
Goal:
Health Literacy - is the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.
Content:
In accordance with the National and New York State Health Education Standards as well as The Guidance Document for Achieving the New York State Standards in Health Education, the following content areas will be covered:
- Abstinence, Puberty & Personal Health
- Emotional & Mental Health
- HIV, STD & Pregnancy Prevention
- Nutrition & Physical Activity
- Tobacco, Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention
- Violence & Injury Prevention
*A consent form will be handed out and must be signed prior to all areas related to Sexual Health/Human Sexuality.
Within each content area, various skills will be developed, including:
- Self-Management
- Relationship Management
- Stress Management
- Decision Making
- Planning and Goal Setting
- Communication
- Advocacy

Attendance
It is critical that students log into Microsoft Teams, follow their class schedule, and complete their assignments on a daily basis.
For 7th and 8th graders, attendance will be taken daily and for every class period.

Students' daily work will be posted in Schoology. A Yonkers Public Schools platform to enhance our students' ability to learn and communicate effectively.
