Cross Hill Academy consists of grades 3-8 .
Cross Hill Academy’s mission provides a community for students to address real world issues and take ownership of their learning, one problem at a time! The Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom™ is a framework that includes problem-based, Authentic Learning Units (ALUs). It consists of a collection of structures that put students in charge of their own learning, and powerful teacher facilitation of learning.
The LATIC framework allows students to take ownership of their learning. Students will be provided opportunities for choosing the way they wish to learn. This includes flexible seating, signing up for their learning group and addressing the list of activities in the order and manner that best meets their learning needs. There will be a help board where students write a question that they have during a learning activity. The expert board allows students to identify if they are an expert on a topic. This approach will impact the way classrooms are structured, teacher planning and lesson delivery. There will be an option of flexible seating for example, students may sit at the round table group of four, in pairs, triads, at a computer or sit by themselves. This small option allows students the power of choice. Though delivering the same content the teachers can collaborate and plan the best method to reach the learning goals.
