Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Fourth Grade! I am looking forward to a happy and productive year of learning and discovery together.
This year, students will become challenged academically. Reading and writing will be more rigorous and intense, as students gain access to new texts, technology, and assessments. Research-based programs such as Thinking Maps, will help students develop thinking, analytical and writing skills. Our class will mostly work in flexible groups offering choice activities and individualized learning paths.
As part of the classroom management system and culture, we will use a token economy. Students will be recognized, praised, and rewarded for their effort, persistence, teamwork, and behavior. We will use ClassDojo to keep track of student social emotional growth and for parent-teacher communication. ClassDojo is free to everyone and can be downloaded from Google.
Research shows that parental involvement in your child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. I hope this year will be filled with collaboration between the classroom and home.
