Description of Activity: The activity for today is going to focus on how to remain safe outside. Have your child watch the following video: Crossing Guard. After watching the video, discuss with your child what they learned about crossing the street. With your help, have your child make a stop sign. For the activity today, your child is going to work on crossing the street using dramatic play. If you have some tape, put a little bit of tape on the floor to represent the crosswalk, if not just designate an area as the crosswalk. Have your child cross the “street”, with you as the crossing guard holding up the stop sign. Ensure your child follows the rules for crossing the street, like waiting for the walk sign, looking both ways, and waiting for the crossing guard (you) to give the go ahead. Then you’ll switch places and your child will pretend to be the crossing guard with the stop sign and you can be the pedestrian.
What to Submit: Submit a video of your child crossing the street the way he/she learned. Submit the video of your child in Portfolio under “Staying Safe: Crossing Guard”

Description of Activity: For today’s activity, we’re going to continue working on combinations of 5. Today your child will work on combinations of 5 using 0 and 5. Using small stop sign cut outs, have your child take the amount they need from the larger pile. Have your child take 5 stop signs and see that 5 in addition to 0 is still 5. Then have your child do the reverse and start with 0 and then 5 and see that 0 in addition to 5 is also 5. Ensure your child counts up to 5 each time. Use the vocabulary words: addition and equals to help him/her understand the concept. Some extra things you can count in this activity: the sides of the stop sign (8) and the letters in the stop sign (4) as a way for your child to continue to practice counting. Keep in mind, you can use any objects for this activity.
What to Submit: Submit a video of your child combining the 0 and 5 stop sign cut outs to create a combination of 5 and putting the correct number under each group. Submit in Portfolio under “Stop Sign: Combination of 5”.
