Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Pavelchak

My name is Miss Kate Pavelchak, and I graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Sociology. I have earned my Master’s Degree in Teaching Literacy from Birth through Grade 12 from Mercy College. I also grew up in Yonkers, and I attended the Yonkers Public Schools. I am thrilled to join the wonderful team of teachers and staff here at Paideia School 24 for a great school year. In the past, I have worked at many other Yonkers Public Schools, including YMA, Boyce Thompson, Martin Luther King School, School 13, Hostos, School 30, and School 31.  I have been teaching in Yonkers now for 13 years; it is my first year at 24 and I am so excited to be here. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!

  • Dear Families,

Welcome to Room 303 at Paideia 24!  I am so thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year!

For your child’s journey to be successful, it is essential for us to understand that each child is a unique individual with special qualities and needs.  With the support of students and families, we will create a classroom environment that will recognize and respect individuality. To support each student’s learning, we will create a classroom that offers a variety of meaningful teaching styles so that each child will have the opportunity to succeed. Our children will grow and learn at their own rate. I invite you to play an active role in your child’s education by talking with your child each day about their learning, reading together every night, and communicating with me through Class Dojo!

I want there to be open communication between us.   If at anytime you have a question, I will be happy to talk with you.  Either, write me a note, write a message on Class Dojo, or email me and I will try to respond as soon as possible. I want you to feel well informed throughout the year.  Each day your child will bring home his/her Homework folder.  Your child’s folder will contain notes, homework, and from time to time projects. Please check your child’s backpack daily for important letters and notes. This can be a hard habit to get started, but well worth it! Thanks in advance!

    Daily Mail:

Each student will be assigned a mailbox.  Mail will be distributed daily. Absent students will receive assignments in their mailbox as well.  However, students may not have mail to bring home every day.

    Bus and Walker Dismissal:

All bus students will be put on the bus unless we have been notified in writing that they are being picked up by an authorized person with ID.  For security reasons, we ask that you, or whoever is picking up your child, check in at the office first to sign out your child. Please refrain from entering the building and going directly to the classroom. It is imperative that we follow the proper sign-out protocol to ensure safety for all.

Walkers will be dismissed from the exit doors in the cafeteria at 3:05pm each day. Please be on time when picking up your child. If you are aware that you will be late or have an emergency please call the office at the number below to notify them immediately. After 3:15 pm all children still waiting for pick-up will be escorted to the office. Please ensure that any changes to dismissal are made in writing.

    Volunteers & Chaperones:

Volunteers and Class Trip Chaperones are much needed and a welcomed part of the classroom. There will be a sign up sheet with dates and times for volunteering at Open House Night.  I really look forward to working with you! This partnership is SO important to make our classroom successful. Together we will work on making this year very enjoyable!

•Nightly homework will be assigned to all grade levels and will usually consist of reading, math practice to support what was learned in class that day, ELA reading comprehension practice, writing summaries, and social studies and science from time to time.

•Homework that is daily is expected to be turned in the following day at school unless informed otherwise. Work given out on Thursdays will be turned in on the next day of school the following week to allow for time to complete writing assignments.

•Children who do not complete homework will be given a homework tag. When missing work is turned in, the tag will be discarded. Many missed assignments will affect your child’s grades.
    Rewards & Consequences:
Students will be able to earn rewards for positive behavior and hard work:
•Students earn Dojo points that they can turn in for a night off from homework. When they reach 75 points they will earn a homework pass, etc. This allows your child to earn individual credits for hard work and persistence.
•Students can also earn marbles for the marble jar collectively as a whole to work towards a common goal. When the marble jar is full, students will be rewarded with a party to celebrate that will be decided upon by our class family as a group.

Read! Read! Read!  Read with your child as much as possible.  This special time is critical to successful literacy development. Welcome again to a wonderful year!
