HOMEROOM TEACHERS and any adult staff ( aides) who supervises students during lunch & recess should know the whereabouts of their students at all times in the event of a school emergency. Please speak to your child about the importance of informing adult staff assigning 

My Background Intro: 

I am Ms. Thomas and I have been an educator for over two decades! 

I presently teach ELA ( English ) and Social Studies to Classes 6T and 6D.

I am confident that we will continue to have a very successful and productive school year ! 

SCHOOLOGY will be implemented for some homework submissions. It can be accessed through CLEVER and then click on OFFICE 365.

BENCHMARK also has an online component accessed through CLEVER as well as 10 consumables for each unit ( workbooks that students can write in and keep).

BENCHMARK has countless educational tools and resources, such as INTERVENTION, QUICK CHECKS, WHOLE & SMALL GROUP RESOURCES,  DISTANCE LEARNING, WRITING, FLUENCY,  GRAMMAR, SPELLING & VOCABULARY and much more! 

There are a total of 10 units that cover various themes and skills, such as annotating, Quick Checks which are similar to "Do Nows" for ELA SKILLS REVIEW, figurative language, citing evidence, referring to the text, making inferences and claims, cause & effect, central idea to start. 

Each unit begins with an "ESSENTIAL QUESTION" which sets the tone and theme for the entire UNIT. 

There are WEEKLY, UNIT AND INTERIM ASSESSMENTS as well.

 D.E.A.R. ( Drop Everything And Read ) Time = Independent reading and chapter questions and graphic organizers and more! 

D.E.A.R. GOAL: To read, analyze, complete student-guided questions of reading at least 25 BOOKS within the school year!

CLEVER: BENCHMARK, IXL, PBS, QUIZLET.com for vocabulary enhancement,  COMMON LIT, READ WORKS are among other educational resources that will be implemented in our curriculum as well. 

PAIDEIA SEMINARS: Students engage in lessons such as analyzing a text, poetry, a photo, song lyrics, a video, a speech, an excerpt, or art !

Children participate in seminars by conveying active listening, annotations, referring to the text, and depth comprehension and conversations providing
