ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Welcome back to 7th and 8th grade Scholars! My name is Ms. Platholi, and I am the 7th grade Earth Science and 8th grade Living Environment teacher. I have more than 10 years of teaching Biology (Living Environment) to all kinds of learners. Furthermore, I have taught in both the public and private sectors. I have had the opportunity to implement the NY State and NGSS standards, Flip classroom model, PBS learning, STEM research, Ozobots, Portfolio writing and Cross-curricular design. ABOUT LIVING ENVIRONMENT: Living Environment / Biology is defined as the study of living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, evolution and interaction with nature. Some topics we will be covering are Engineering Design, Living Systems, Chemistry in Living systems, Matter and Energy in Living systems, Ecosystems: Stability and change, Cells: Stability and change, The structure and functions of DNA, Genetics and Heredity, Evidence of Evolution, Patterns of Evolution, and Human Impacts on the Environment. There is a NY State mandated Lab component to the curriculum. Students will be required to take the NY State Regents Exam at the end of the year and will earn 1 credit towards their NYS Graduation Requirement.
ABOUT EARTH SCIENCE: Earth Science is defined as the study of Earth and Space Science. Some of the topics covered include Engineering Design, Circulation of Earth's Air and Water, Weather and Climate, Earth through time, Resources and Natural Hazards, Human Impact, the Solar System and the Universe and its patterns. Labs will be part of the topics covered in the curriculum.
