September 2020

Dear Pre-k Students and Families,

Welcome to PEARLS! I am very excited to meet you and get to know you.  School may look a little different this year, but we have many fun activities to do together.  Boys and girls please “come to school” ready to learn.  Right now, “coming to school” will mean being ready to learn in your school corner at home.  So your first fun activity  will be to set up your school corner so that you will be comfortable and able to listen to stories, meet and talk to new friends and do the activities we will be working on together.

As you know, our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 9th.  The first group will log on to Teams from 8:30-9:30 and the second group will be on Teams from 10:30-11:30. I will let you know which group you are in. I will be calling each parent by Tuesday to give them log in information which will allow you to access the Clever portal and log on to Microsoft Teams which will be our live teaching platform.

I will be using the email address that you used to register your child.  I will be sending all information during the year to this email address.  Communication is very important, and I rely heavily on sending and receiving weekly emails to inform you as to what I am doing each week; therefore, if there is an additional email which you would like added, please send me an email from the email address that you wish to be added and put your child’s name in the subject line.

During orientation we will be reading the story The Kissing Hand.  If you could please help your child trace their own hand (just 1 hand), cut out this hand and cut out one small heart that would fit on the palm of the paper hand.  In addition to the hand and heart they should have another piece of construction paper any color and a marker or crayon and a glue stick.  Also, we will be doing a Scavenger Hunt during orientation.  Look for an email with an attachment "Scavenger Hunt".  It would be great if you could print this page so that your child can use it during the orientation.  Please keep these items handy for your child to use during orientation.

In addition, look for the attachment "Parent Questionnaire" in an email.  Moms and Dads please be sure to complete the "Parent Questionnaire" prior to our orientation meeting on Wednesday and email it back upon completion.  It is IMPERATIVE that we have all allergy and contact information before the start of our virtual orientation on September 9th.  The questionnaires can be filled out online and sent back to your teacher’s email.

We are sure you are curious about school supplies.  For now it would be helpful for you to create a “school corner” at home and include the following in a "cubby/basket" in this corner as your child's sschool supplies:

-a laptop (be sure it’s charged)

- 2 marble notebooks (wide ruled)

-a glue stick

-markers

-crayons

-pencils

-scissors

-play doh

-watercolor paints

-dry erase markers

Even though school looks different this year, it is going to be very important to begin and keep to our daily school routine.  Therefore, please see to it that your child has breakfast before logging on to the computer, is dressed (all members of the family should be dressed as well), and ready to learn by 7:45. We will give you more information about our remote learning day during orientation.  Please continue to check this homepage for any additional updates until we get all of our class email list confirmed.  Check this homepage also for a "September Remote Learning Schedule" & a special "Wednesdays in September Letter".

We know this is a lot of information at once.  Please send us an email if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Hunt (ehunt@yonkerspublicschools.org)
